Hillsview Academy is running a two week summer school at the start and the end of the summer holidays for new Year 7 students. The students have been invited to attend a two week summer school that will ‘bridge the gap’ between finishing Primary and starting Secondary school.  The students will be topping up their literacy and numeracy skills on a morning and taking part in a wide range of enrichment subjects on the afternoon’s.

50 students have accepted the invitation to attend the summer school.

The aims of the summer school are for the new Year 7 students to;

      Become more familiar with their new school

      Meet staff they will be working with in September

      Make new friends and have fun

      Continue to make progress with their learning

      Be ready to learn in September

One student said “I love the summer school. I was only going to come for the first week but I have had such a great week I am definitely coming for the second week now.”

Assistant Principal, Mr Paul Julian said “As a parent of a Year 6 student myself I personally feel that 6 weeks is too long a break from learning and when students come back to school in September they have forgotten a lot of what they learnt at primary school. Our summer school project has been funded by the government and aims to make sure that the gains made at primary school are not lost. We have also been working really closely with our feeder primary schools to develop a really smooth transition process. ”

The second week of the summer school will continue to reinforce the literacy and numeracy and students will have a famous mystery guest visiting on Thursday 27th August from 1-3pm.
