We went into this game on the back of two very impressive victories! We should have started a lot better than we did. We ended up going 1-0 down because the team fell asleep. With their first attack of the game St Michaels took the lead thanks to a quick passing move helping them bypass the defence and score the opening goal. This was totally against the run of play.

Once Hillsview went 1-0 down they finally decided to wake up and started to play football, this along with some smart movement off the ball led to some great chances but ultimately the keeper came out on top on most of them. Hillsview kept up the pressure and this allowed Joe Jones to break clear of the defence and put a great cross in which landed perfectly for the on rushing Brad Green to slot easily into the bottom left hand corner to bring the game level.

The goal gave Hillsview the confidence to keep pushing and within 5 minutes of getting the goal to make it 1-1 it was 2-1, this was thanks to Ryan Bache showing some great foot work just outside of the box and then managing to get his shot off, this was smartly saved by the keeper who spills it straight into the path of Joe Jones to finish with ease into the back of the net.

Hillsview must have thought that they had the game in the bag because just before the ref blew for HT they tried to play a high defensive line but this did not work as St Michaels beat the offside trap to get 1 on 1 with Lee Foley. Unfortunately for Hillsview Lee couldn’t keep the shot out and they made it 2-2. This was the score going into the HT break.

The second half began as the 1st half ended both pushing trying to get that next goal. The next goal went against Hillsview though and this was thanks to a free kick just outside of the area whipped in over the top of the wall and nestling in the bottom of the net 3-2 and Hillsview have it all to do.

Hillsview were the only team trying to play football, trying to keep it on the floor and passing it around. St Michael’s looked like a very good defensive unit getting men behind the ball whenever Hillsview tried to attack.

The game looked to be getting away from Hillsview but with time running out Hillsview got a free kick just inside the opponents half. The free kick was floated in perfectly for Hillsview to cushion the ball to the edge of the area straight into the awaiting Joe Jones to slot away into the bottom corner. He kept the ball down and kept his cool to make it 3-3.

With the game quickly approaching extra time Hillsview got 1 last opportunity to win the game and they took it. The ball was bouncing in and around the box, rebounding from player to player just waiting for someone to hit it. Up pops Brad Green to slot it past the keeper to make it 4-3. It ended up been a smash and grab for Hillsview but overall they deserved the win thanks to the great 1 touch football they had showed all game. The never give up attitude of the players was great to see. Well done Year 11’s onto the next round of the cup we go!
